Advanced Canoeing
Course includes:
This course is designed for people with some river paddling experience. We will paddle grade II rivers in solo or tandem canoes. A campout may be involved. Participants should be prepared to swim. Instruction covers basic canoe strokes on lakes, river reading, canoe strokes on rivers, ferrying and rescues, river travel, stroke improvement, running rapids and safety. Course provides you with the necessary skills to maneuver through Class III rapids.
2024 Dates
- 1st Course: May 24-26
- 2nd Course: June 7-9
Groups often camp out in Haines Junction rather than driving back to Whitehorse.
Schedule
Friday Evening: 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. City Intake
Saturday: 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Takhini River
Sunday: 9:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m. Kathleen River
